The visit was to the Boys and Girls Club in Loveland Colorado, during their “bike week”. Allistair, Will and I all spoke about the bicycles/ equipmment, especially about the importance of wearing a helmet. We spoke about racing and the distances/ frequency’s that we ride and race. About Jelly Belly candy and how we use a special Sport Bean while we ride. Then we gave out a sample package to each student who wanted one and autographs for those who wanted one. The kids asked tons of questions. All in all they were very excited that we were there and the kids were too.

This weekend Jelly Belly p/b Kenda raced in the Redlands Bicycle Classic, the race where the team first got its start.

Twelve years ago, Danny Van Haute took over the Redlands Club elite cycling team and turned it into the longest-running professional team in the U.S. Now, Jelly Belly p/b Kenda races all over the world representing its sponsors.

Highlights from the weekend’s race include a top-10 finish by Bernard van Ulden in the opening prologue and second place by Ken Hanson in the Stage 2 criterium. In the final stage, a 90-mile road race, the team rode well for van Ulden, who finished 17th in the stage — good for sixth in the general classification.

The day before the race, Jelly Belly p/b Kenda riders Brad Huff, Alastair Loutit and Sergio Hernandez visited Arroyo Verde Elementary School in Redlands and talked to fifth- and sixth-graders about the Redlands race, the team and bicycle safety.

And of course, they passed out Jelly Belly jelly beans.

Next up for the team is the Tour of Korea, April 15-24.

I just wanted to send a big thanks to the Entire JB cycling crew and team. Special thanks to Stephanie for getting myself, my son Jack, Simon & Jenna Rose and Liam into the VIP tent at the final stage of the Tour of Missouri and inviting us to the post race barbecue. We had a total blast.

The JB boys are so friendly, great with the fans even after busting a gut all day racing – I’m not so sure I’d be so cool with sycophants like me hanging around. They are all great ambassadors for JB. Thanks especially to Matty and Phil for coming out to meet the fans at my friend, Dave Robinsons, candy store in the Jefferson City Mall last Thursday. And finally, a big thanks to Danny for his exciting offer to give me a ride in the team car next time in Missouri.

Martin Wills
Columbia Missouri.

P.S. I’ll be doing my best to lobby the State/Governors office to continue support for ToM.

Mr. Van Haute,

This past weekend my family and I traveled from Columbus, OH to St. Louis to watch the first stage of Tour of Missouri. My husband, Jeffrey, and son, Xander, are big cycling fans. They were peering through the fence around the team trailer area when five guys from team Jelly Belly came out on their way to dinner. These guys were very kind and graciously offered to take a picture with my family. I’m attaching it here. My daughter, Amira, might have been a little freaked out but Xander’s smile is genuine. It made his day! Please tell them thank you for us and best of luck for the rest of the tour.

Sincerely,

The Tadlock Family
Lauren, Jeffrey, Xander (5) and Amira (2)
