Brad Huff rode a furious 400-yard sprint to the line to claim victory in Stage 3 at the Tour of Hainan.
Huff was leading out teammate Sean Mazich, but when Mazich lost his wheel, Huff hit the gas.
“This is a huge victory for the Jelly Belly p/b Kenda cycling team,” said Team Director Danny Van Haute.
Valentin Iglinskiy of Astana maintains the overall lead. Kiel Reijnen is Jelly Belly’s top contender in GC, standing in fifth place.
The 145-kilometer stage started with a Category 1 climb right out of the gate. Reijnen and Sergio Hernandez got into a breakaway of six, and Reijnen took third place in the KOM points and second in a time bonus sprint.
“We were one of the most aggressive teams out there today,” Reijnen wrote on his blog. “It was a really solid show casing of teamwork and it paid off, not to mention Brad had an amazing sprint! Hopefully tomorrow will bring more of the same.”
Stage 4 covers 163 kilometers from Xinglong to Wenchang.
