This Sunday the Jelly Belly team will compete in Missouri’s only NRC race, the Tour de Winghaven, near St. Louis Missouri. To make this Father’s Day weekend even more special, some members of the team will be giving their time to underprivileged children on Saturday at the Hub Bicycle Company in Webster Groves.
On Saturday morning, Bigs and their Littles from Big Brothers Big Sisters of Missouri, official charity of the Tour of Missouri, will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to meet the riders and ask them all the questions they want while they ride around Historic Webster Groves with professional cyclists. Jelly Belly riders participating in the event will be Bernard van Ulden, Jeremy Powers and Nick Reistad. After their ride the cyclists will sign autographs and hand out official 10th Anniversary Jelly Belly water bottles and Jelly Belly beans to all the children at the event.
Then on Sunday at 2:00 p.m., the full Jelly Belly team will take off from the start line in Winghaven. While competing against two other professional teams, Team Type 1 and Colavita-Sutter Home presented by Cooking Light, and other pros from across the country, the riders will do everything they can during the 84 mile road race to win a place on the podium.
As the team and riders have recently moved way up in the NRC standings, from 11th to 4th June 15, Team Director Danny van Haute said Tour de Winghaven is the perfect opportunity to keep pushing forward.
“This is such a spectator friendly race, and a hard, exciting course,” he said. “I would really like to see the team move up some more before we leave for China in July.”
